Surviving Festivals

Festivals are a great fun, but can get very muddy! They are a place that you can enjoy yourself within the rules and regulations set by the festival.
I have never been to Leeds Fest or Glastonbury, however every year for the past 6 years I have been going to Greenbelt, which this year is moving to a greenfield site for the first time in a long while.

So here are my essentials for going to a festival.

  • Lots, and lots of tissues- Tissues are very much needed at a festival, especially when Portaloos run out of toilet paper. They are also very good at soaking up spills, or cleaning yourself off if you get too muddy. Make up wipes are also important, mainly to clean up any mud.

  • Antibacterial gel- With there being no proper toilets at festivals, the gel in the portaloo's run out, so it is good to have some to kill the bacteria.
  • Pac-a-mac - Small rain coat, which can easily be packed away. No one wants to get soaked in the rain, when enjoying the music on the stage, so it's good to have a small raincoat packed away ready for any occasion.
  • Spare set of clothes- No one wants to be walking around in wet clothes, so it's good to have a spare set of clothes, just incase the worst comes.
  • Dry Shampoo- Festivals usually last about 3-4 days ,and so its always good to bring some dry shampoo, to fix some oily problems going all up in the head area. I at the moment are using Garnier Ultimate Blends, it smells nice.

  • Notepad and Pen- If you hear something you like, and you wanna remember it, then you can write it down, also if you get bored, there is always doodling.
  • Sunnies- Sunglasses are super important especially if it is really sunny. However with this being England, and with English weather, maybe just have them to look cool.
  • Identification- ID is essential especially if you look like your 12 but your actually 20 (like me).  Many festivals sell alcohol, and by British law you have to be 18 or over to buy and consume alcohol. You most likely will get asked for some ID which is essential if you want a great night or day.
  • Wellies- Wellies are the number 1 must have, as festivals can get very muddy, even if it is sunny all the time. They are comfortable ,and durable, they will provide some extra comfort when walking from place to place over grass which thousands of people walk across everyday over the festival.
  • Torch- Music sets can go on late into the night, and as you're walking back to your tent/ caravan you may trip over guy ropes or walk into someone tent (It has happened before). A torch can help light up your path but also can be a great help whilst trying to look for your particular tent. (Also helps if you remember where you pitched it.)
Hope these essentials help you enjoy a festival, they are even good for camping holidays as well.
